Where in the World is Mr. Alford?

Although the view from Cape Byron, New South Wales, was truly amazing and Mr. Alford's time in Australia was painfully short, he and his ravishing wife Jenny are quite happy to have moved on to a country on north side of the equator that has a very interesting, albeit violent history with the United States.  In fact, Mr. Alford and Jenny feel quite fortunate to even be in this country on the Indochina Peninsula as the United States only normalized relations on July 11th, 1995, thus allowing Americans to visit this culturally rich and fascinating country.

Mr. Alford currently stands near the mausoleum of a famous military and political leader who can be credited with leading his country in victory over the French occupation in 1954, and later in defeating the Army of South Vietnam, who were heavily support by America, and reunifying the country in 1975 under a communist government.  This national landmark is located on the exact spot where this man once stood and delivered this country's declaration of independence on September 2nd, 1945.

Can you guess Where in the World Mr. Alford has landed?  Correct answers in this week's trivia will include both the county and name of monument at which Mr. Alford now stands.  Submit your guesses to the Where in the World is Mr. Alford Box in the Brookside Library and Mr. Rodgers will soon be drawing a lucky name for a great prize.

Mr. Alford would like to encourage all of his students to dream big about traveling the world.  Our planet is a wonderful, diverse and amazing place filled with people with all kind of beliefs, values and traditions.  As far as Mr. Alford can tell in this year of travel, he has found most people to be kind, honest and have the same basic aspirations of happiness and fulfillment regardless of cultural  differences.  Study hard, read up on your history, save your money and go exploring; travel is one of the best forms of education anyone could imagine.  Mr. Alford would also like to remind all of his students to take good care of their health, as the body is the vehicle through which we navigate the world, and a healthy one will take you to some really marvelous and extraordinary destinations!

Hmm, what flag is Jenny walking under?

Recycling; should Mrs. Nandi's Green Team incorporate the use of the bamboo yoke?

Don't let Mr. Alford's wife demure looks fool you, she is a Wildcat at the core!

Not only is rice a staple of the inhabitants of this county, but it is also one of this country's leading agricultural exports.

Schools in this county are not nearly as nice or wealthy as is Brookside Elementary.

Over 20% of this county's workforce is employed in the agriculture industry utilizing many of the same techniques used for thousands of years.

The motorbike is by far the most popular form of transportation in this country.  Jenny is not quite sure she is going to survive this ride down winding mountain roads.

Fishing is another very important aspect of this country's sustenance and economy.  This floating conglomerate is a family's home and livelihood.

Foot rowing may be an emerging Olympic Sport!

Everywhere Mr. Alford travels, he is a teacher.  Here he gives a tutorial on how to tie a double-windsor knot.
